BRIEF HISTORY OF SCIENCE FICTION,
FANTASY, AND HORROR

(Class Limit: 35) This class will provide a brief history of science fiction, fantasy, and horror from dime novels to pulp magazines, paperbacks to e-books. Participants will be introduced to the influences of Mary Shelley, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Bram Stoker, Hugo Gernsback, John W. Campbell, Farnsworth Wright, Donald A. Wollheim, Fredrik Pohl, Isaac Asimov, L. Ron Hubbard, C.L. Moore, Henry Kuttner Robert Bloch, H.P. Lovecraft, and the literary giants who created or laid the foundations for Frankenstein, Dracula, War of the Worlds, The Time Machine, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Psycho, Star Trek, I Robot, and Star Wars. They paved the way for today’s best-selling books, blockbuster films, and hit television programs.
